Although they were celebrating Christmas, they were also celebrating Sara's 80th birthday, which was the day before on December 25. And we all wore party hats!!! It was lots of fun!!

David and Tricia in Cape May
Well, we're back and this is one of the many pictures that I will be sharing with you in the days to come. We are exhausted, but had an absolutely wonderful time and we are so ready to do it again!! Other than getting seasick on the ferry Wednesday morning, which made for a miserable day's drive for the rest of the day, the trip was perfect. We had so much fun visiting and laughing and EATING!! I have never eaten so many sweets nor have I EVER had as much coffee as I did at the Cutshall's! It just seemed essential to have a huge mug of coffee!! And it was really really good coffee, which made it easy to keep refilling that huge mug!!! I have a lot more to say about our Christmas with the Cutshalls, but it will be in a future post, hopefully with pictures.
AND, we had a wonderful 30th birthday celebration for Christopher at his favorite restaurant, Al Amir. He invited two of the Somali teens that he tutors to join us for dinner and it was quite an eye opening experience for everyone. Aden is very very fond of Christopher, but Mohammed was very shy and quiet. But he did tell me that I was old, so there's that!!! I wasn't offended in the least! I am very proud of Christopher and Katie for what they have accomplished since they have been living in Columbia. They are just very special people.
I am about to fall out, so that is all for this evening. Stay tuned, there will be a lot more to come!!

David and I are about to go shopping downtown, to pick up a few things that we saw the other day. The rest of the Waldie family is due in around noon, and they will then have their Christmas, so we are going to stay out of their hair for a little while. And then of course, there will be more food to eat!!!!
So, we have taken pictures but we will post them when we get home.
I hope that my animals are being fed and watered. I just haven't even called home because I don't want to worry about them, and trust that between the house sitter and the two good neighbors, things will be all right.
So, everyone have a great day!!! It is so wonderful up here - I cannot believe that we actually will be heading back tomorrow!!
tricia, in New Jersey!!!

Update on today
Well, I found my cell phone. It was in the car, thank goodness. It is now three p.m. and we haven'at left yet, due to David doing paperwork. We also have to go pick up some medicine for him before we leave town, and y'all, I could really use a cup of coffee, REAL BAD!! A BIG ONE, FULL OF CAFFEINE AND SUGAR!!!! We'll see, though.
Goober is at the vet - she was all excited until I took off her leash and the girl put another one on her, but she adapts quickly and will be running the kennel before morning. Ginnie picked up Teddie a little while ago and that little cat raised a ruckus!!! She growled and hissed and fought us so badly that we had to put her in a cat carrier. She is so used to her own little world that she was just scared to death! Hopefully, she will calm down because Ginnie is a cat mama, too, and will love on her a lot. Seeing how she reacted makes me very glad that we aren't taking her on this trip! She would either get hurt or hurt us, and personally, that is not one of the goals I have in mind to accomplish for our Christmas holiday. The dogs know something is up, they have these long faces and are just sitting in their dog house. ALL of the litter boxes are clean, ready to be used (I'm sure they have all already been several times.). The outside cats are inside the big pen and while they will probably whine and mew a few times, they really have it so good in there they will have to be forced out when we get back!! The man staying here will check in on them once a day, but they have enough food and water for a week. The upstairs cats know something is up and they are following me around, meowing and basically being pitiful, but they, too, have plenty of food and water and Michael will socialize with them some since he is going to be spending most nights here. They wouldn't have it near this good if we had boarded them at the vet! And our last name would have to be Rockefeller (sp?) if we boarded everyone!! They do not have enough ROOM to board all of my animals!!!!!!
And I just shoved stuff into some bags - what I need, I will buy. Everything will be wrinkled but so what? It's Christmas!!!
I have all of the presents on the deck so I won't forget them. None of them are wrapped so we will have to do that in the hotel room tonight, IF WE EVER GET TO ONE!!
I will try to post while we are in Cape May, but if I don't get to, never fear, there will be massive postings when we get back. Plus we are taking the camera so we can share the beauty of Cape May with everyone.
That's it for now. I do hope we get out of Vicksburg before dark, but it is so dark now, I am not sure we will make it. At least I'm not driving!!!
So,Merry Christmas!!!!! Have a wonderful day!!!!!
By the way, the reason I put the cat nativity scene back on here is because we are celebrating the birth of the little tabby Jesus. Feline Navidad!!!!!

Well, it's finally here!

Unbelievably, we leave on our big Christmas trip tomorrow and no, I am no way ready for it!! And apparently I have lost my cell phone!! SO, tomorrow, besides getting the animals taken care of, finishing washing the clothes, getting the garbage out, doing all those things you have to do before you leave the house for a couple of days, I have to track down that dingblasted phone!! The last place I used it was at the cancer clinic, and we were AGAIN the last ones to leave today, so I am hoping that it is still sitting on the floor beside the chair I was in. Y'all keep your fingers crossed!!! I just put more minutes on it, too!!!!!
But I am really looking forward to getting on the road. The weather hasn't been cold here by any means, but it has been cloudy and misty so all of the twinkling lights look really beautiful, which makes it really really Christmasy. I am looking forward to seeing that in Cape May!!!
So, everyone, have an absolutely wonderful weekend/Christmas Day!! I love you all!!!!

Hello, all. It is so hard to believe that Christmas is one week from today! And we are leaving on our Christmas trip in three days! I am so not ready, but I will be by then-I do work best under pressure! I have been doing some baking, which has probably added several pounds to my already need to lose weight body. But you know, when a cookie falls on the floor, there is that five second rule, and I just can't waste it and I can't give it to someone. Yes, I could throw it away. That's not an option at this time of year, though!!!!! Here is another Christmas funny to enjoy!

Ten days until Christmas! I really do think that a couple of weeks has been pulled off the calendar because it just CANNOT be that close!!! But the holiday season is in full swing. We had to go to Walmart today and lawsy, it was crowded, and we got out of there before the evening crowd got there!! We only needed some groceries and lightbulbs - there were tons of people with carts loaded up with toys, electronics, gift stuff. Thank goodness we are through with that!! We were exhausted by the time we got home, yet we are still up at 11 p.m.!! We're just dumb. No more Walmart until 2007, if I can help it. But you know I will cave in and go. Again, I am just dumb!!
The roof is finished, paid for, and looks fabulous! The roofers did a stellar job, picked up everything, and we would highly recommend them to anyone. I am glad we won't have to do that for another 50 years, though. If it wears out in 49 years, I will show them my warranty!!!!
I continue to despise River Region Health System. Today, of course on a Friday, I got a notice that they had turned me over to a collections agency! Well, you can imagine my anger. David called them and also, of course, the person we need to talk to was off today!! It infuriates me to no end that this hospital's billing system is so incompetant! I spoke to one person recently who received the same bill three times, threatening her with collections. She didn't owe it. Insurance had paid it. So, this is not something I want to be dealing with the week we leave for our Christmas vacation!!! But I am ready and have my ammunition (payment dates and bank code authorization for said payments) so I will try not to think about it for the rest of the weekend.
That brings me to my cartoon. Just imagine the billing department employees' heads mounted on the wall! That makes me laugh!!!!
Have a great Saturday!!!

Happenings on December 13:
David had another treatment today which seemingly took forever. Man, you can get tired just sitting for hours.
The roofers came and worked all day and when we came in from chemo, their trailer with shingle pieces and boards in it were in the carport. That was kind in of inconvenient. Hopefully, they will be through soon and we will have a wonderfully beautiful roof.
Highway 61 Coffeeshop had a great ad in the paper today - it was a picture of all of my children from when they were here at Thanksgiving!! And today, of all days, I didn't get a paper!!! I was so tired and looking forward to the picture, and there was no paper. So, I called and they didn't come for a long time so I went to Marian's to see her paper. It is a great picture, and while I was there, the guy drove up and gave me my paper. He had to listen to me rant and rave about why they seem to forget me all of the time. I hugged him though, and thanked him for listening to me! And then I called and left a message for Marian apologizing for being all freaked out. But y'all, I was tired and distraught!!!! It has been a long day!
And now I am very tired. So, enjoy the newest cartoon.
We'll talk later.

Wow, less than two weeks until Christmas!
David's face is doing something new. It is hurting him quite a bit, but we are hoping that the worst is over. Of course, we don't know that - his treatment last week may cause it to break out overnight like the last time, plus he has another treatment tomorrow. It is quite disconcerting, to say the least. We are invited to a dinner tonight but he may not feel like going. I hope he does, because it will be a nice meal and I would really enjoy that!! But, I will do what he feels like doing, which may be ordering pizza for supper!
The roofers worked until almost dark yesterday, anticipating this rain that came in today. To be honest with you, I cannot tell too much of a difference in the old roof and the part that they did yesterday!! But it is suppposed to last 50 years, so it will be the last roof that we will have to deal with!! They will be back tomorrow and probably finish up Thursday. That will be a relief to get it done before our trip. And then there will go all of our money!!! But it had to be done, regardless.
Okay, that is it for now.

Bacon and Eggs at Catty Car Corner
Update on Jean's dog
Monday, December 11
Update on roofers: Okay, I go out to put a letter in the mailbox and I said good morning to a couple of the men standing there. One guy said, what's so good about it, which kind of caught me off guard. I told him he was alive, that was good, and he replied that that was about the only good thing about it, having to deal with a roof like ours was a terrible way to start the week!! Hmmmm. This isn't "extreme makeover" or something where they do it out of the kindness of their hearts. We have to pay them big bucks to get this done!! What could I say, I just said I'm sorry and came back inside. So then I go out to let the animals out (which, btw, they are freaked! Candy ran off and hasn't come back. Okay, addendum to that, Candy just came in. They aren't happy about being in today, because it is a perfect kitty play outside day, but I feel better knowing that they are safe and away from machinery.
Anyway, a guy was smoking and about to throw his cigarette on the ground. I asked him not to just leave all of their cigarettes on the ground because I didn't want to have to pick them up. They are all male chauvinists, because they looked at me like "how dare that woman speak to us"! In fact, the guy who owns the roofing company, always wants to talk to Mr. David, not me, I guess not even believing that a couple can be equal partners. Okay, I am riled up. If they all want to smoke, then they need to join us at the cancer clinic every week and watch David get hooked up to an IV. That may not stop them from smoking, but it sure would let them realize why I cannot stand to be near the smoke or cigarette butts. If they insist on smoking, well then they can pick it all up at the end of the day. Is that too much to ask? It is just common courtesy, a trait that is in short supply in this day and age, unfortunately.
That's all for now. Thank goodness I need to go to the store!!
More on this topic as it unfolds.......

Robert Plant and Nicolette
For those who have never met him, I would like to introduce Robert Plant, a troll that has lived in our household for over three decades. He used to reside under a fern but the fern went the way of most plants in this house and he is just on a shelf now. Anyway, David wanted him to have some Christmas finery, so here is Robert, all decked out for a merry holiday season. He is standing on Nicolette, a shapely young lady who holds our remote controls, clippers, and an occasional Perrier. She is sporting a Santa hat, too, you will notice.
Robert could give Rudolph a run for his money with that red nose, but Robert's nose has teeth marks where Christopher chewed on it a long time ago.

Fuzzy tagged me about the three things list. So, here goes:
3 things that scare me - the unknown, losing touch with my children, being alone
3 people who make me laugh - Erica, Christopher, and David
3 things I love - my family, my friends, my cats
3 things I hate - cancer, rudeness, no tolerance for others
3 things I don't understand - how hanging a cross above my door can piss somebody off, how people can have absolutely no shred of compassion within them, why I am not wealthy!
3 things on my desk - a kleenex box, some wooden flowers on springs (really), flaxseed oil for animals
3 things I'm doing right now - yawning, talking to Teddie, being really tired
3 things I want to do before I die - pay off all of my debts, go to Maine, help more animals
3 things I can do - help animals, drive, read (I told you I was tired!)
3 things I can't do - math, puzzles, fix machinery
3 things I think you should listen to - your inner voice, good music, something to make you laugh
3 things that you should never listen to - cruel rude people, overzealous preachers, music that you don 't like! Oh, and a fourth thing, doctors who think they are gods.
3 things I'd like to learn - play the banjo (surprised y'all, didn't I?), paint, sing
3 of my favorite foods - chicken, potato salad, and butter beans
3 beverages I drink regularly - coffee, orange juice, water with lemons
3 shows I watched as a kid - Gunsmoke, Captain Kangaroo, Donna Reed
3 people I'm tagging - Carolyn, Cheryl, and Jean
Saturday night, Dec. 9
Hey, all! How is everyone doing, just a little bit over two weeks before Christmas? We had a very nice day today. We ate a light lunch at the coffee shop (I basically inhaled a bagel with cream cheese. MMMM good!), then we went to Canton (about an hour from here) to walk around a couple of antique stores and see all of the lights in Canton Square. For those who don't know, Canton is where several movies have been filmed - A TIME TO KILL; OH BROTHER WHERE ART THOU?; MY DOG SKIP and probably some more but those are the only ones that come to mind at the moment. It was very pretty, lots and lots of people, and we ate a very nice restaurant. We ate way way way too much food! But it was good and the atmosphere was very nice, with Christmas songs playing and everyone wearing festive outfits. I got their bread pudding for dessert. I'm sorry, it doesn't even come near the bread pudding that I make! Thank Carolyn for the good recipe!
Anyway, we then stopped off in Madison at the Wal-mart and to be honest with you, I was surprised that there was no crowd!!! There weren't even lines at the checkout counters!!! Either people have finished their shopping (like moi), or they are in denial that Christmas is actually coming rather fast! Ironically, basically all we bought was a lot of granola bars and some cat food!!! But at least it's done - our Wal-mart will be a madhouse tomorrow because Sunday afternoons seems to be when everyone in Warren County needs to go there! I will avoid it, believe me.
But we are home and David is listening to one of his Christmas presents, a CD of the Arc Angels, from 1992. It is very very good. I recommend it.
Well, that is about it for now. The kitty in the picture is Puffy, one of our outside cats and the mother of some very beloved cats in our lives, most of them already gone over the Rainbow Bridge. She will not come in, but she looks mighty precious in her basket, doesn't she?
Have a great evening!

Update on David
Thursday, December 07, 2006
I HAD to put something cute on here to cushion the shock of those David pictures. He thought I had mentioned his rash (and let's face it - "rash" is too mild of a word!!) in an earlier post, but I hadn't. So, he apologizes to everyone that he insisted on me posting those pictures!!
So, here is a panda in Tupperware. Much more pleasant to look at!
In the interest of full disclosure, David wanted me to post these pictures of him to show the new side effect from the new treatment, Erbitux. We really would rather his hair have fallen out. These are painful, embarrassing, distracting, and will be lovely in holiday photos!! The doctor did prescribe an antibiotic wipe to use, but so far, no good.
David says, "It's beginning to look a lot like Zitmas!" Ho, ho, ho.

Lurch and Fester
Okay, here are Lurch and Fester in a festive, holiday mood. What isn't very evident here is the fact that Lurch has on a Christmas tree hat and Fester has a wreath around his neck and is wearing red antlers with ornaments hanging off of them!! My mind is just full of other holiday accessories that they can wear - for Easter they could have rabbit ears!!! It could happen!
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
Wow, less than three weeks until the big day! How in the world did THAT happen?? I have been putting Christmas ornaments on the tree, put ribbons outside on the door, and we decorated Lurch and Fester, but haven't been able to put it on the computer yet. Hopefully, that will be rectified within the next couple of days.
The weather has been cold and beautiful, perfect holiday weather to get stuff done. I went shopping today for both mothers, saw Norma at Walmart, so I took her around to just about finish her shopping up, then we went and ate a fabulous meal at Ameristar. I will never lose weight with all of the food during the holidays! ANYWAY, I took her back to her car at Walmart and headed to my mother's house, where I was to give her all of the stuff I had gotten for her to give, AND to get reimbursed, and she met me at the door saying that she had sat on her glasses and I needed to take her to get them fixed!!! I WAS SO TIRED!!! But we went and when I got home, all of my little kitty cats were at the door, waiting to come in, because even though they all have real fur coats, they were chilly!!!! And they wanted canned cat food!!! So, I didn't get inside until about 4:30 and I really just want to collapse on the couch. David has been in Gulfport since Sunday night so he is on his way home. If I were a really Susie Homemaker kind of wife, I would have a hot meal waiting for him when he got home, but hey, I have just been trying to keep him healthy, don't expect me to cook, too!!!!!!!! Cereal will get the job done for both of us!!!!!! He has another treatment tomorrow, and hopefully he will sail through it as easily as he did last week.
I wish I had a Christmas picture to put on here, but I don't know how to just find those and put them on my blog, so here is just a cute one to make you smile!

IT IS COLD TODAY!!!
Well, the weather man, or in our case, the weather woman, waa absolutely correct in predicting this cold front!! We didn't even have sweaters on last night when we went to eat at Cracker Barrel, and when we walked out, LAWSEY!!! It was cold!!! And then last night when I went to get the dogs in and put out the garbage, it was gale force winds!!!! It sure feels more like Christmas than it did yesterday, when we had to turn on the air conditioner. And Erica and Fuzzy will be heading back to Chicago this weekend. The pictures I've seen of the weather there, well, all I can say is I hope they are careful and don't spin out as all of the other cars are doing in that area!!! But hey, we have ice, too - the pet bowls are frozen and the puddles from the rain yesterday are frozen, too!! Happy December 1!!! Of course, it may be 80 degrees next week.
I hope everyone is getting ready for Christmas. Me? Nope. Yesterday I could have gotten some stuff done, but I just sat on the couch holding the baby kitten. I work best under pressure anyway.
Everyone have a good day.
